How-to guide

How to take a full-page screenshot in Chrome

Install the Toolbox extension, open the page and press Alt+Shift+P (or click Full page in Toolbox's Screenshots tool). Toolbox scrolls the page from top to bottom, takes a shot at each stop and stitches them into one image, with sticky headers shown only once, then opens it in its editor or saves it to your Downloads folder.

Full-page capture needs Premium ($20/month or $200/year) or Pro. Screenshots of the visible area or a selected area are free.

Step by step

  1. Add Toolbox to Chrome. Install Toolbox from the Chrome Web Store, pin it to the toolbar, and sign in with Google or your email. The free plan needs no card.
  2. Open the page. Go to the web page you want to capture, in a normal tab.
  3. Start a full-page capture. Press Alt+Shift+P. Or click the Toolbox icon, open Screenshots and click Full page (“Scrolls and stitches the page”).
  4. Let it scroll. Toolbox scrolls the page one screen at a time and stitches the shots together, then puts the page back where it was. The side panel shows the progress, and Cancel capture stops it.
  5. Edit or save it. By default the screenshot opens in the Toolbox editor, where you can crop it, add arrows, text and numbered steps, blur anything private and download it as PNG, JPG or WebP. To save captures straight to your Downloads folder instead, set After capturing to Save to Downloads in the Screenshots tool.

The full version is on the web: Screenshots in Toolbox, mark up and share your captures.

Good to know

  • Sticky headers and bars appear once, at the top, instead of in every part. Turn off Show sticky headers only once under Options → Full page to keep them.
  • For pages that load images as you scroll, raise Wait between shots, for slow pages (0.5 to 5 seconds) under Options → Full page.
  • The page is captured top to bottom at the width of your window.
  • A capture taller than 32,000 pixels is saved as several images, and a capture stops after 150 screens. Chrome's own pages (chrome:// and the Chrome Web Store) can't be captured; for local files, turn on Allow access to file URLs for Toolbox in chrome://extensions.
  • To change the shortcut, press Change keyboard shortcuts in the Screenshots tool (it opens chrome://extensions/shortcuts).

Can I take a full-page screenshot for free?

Not with Toolbox: full-page and scrolling-panel captures are part of Premium and Pro. On the free plan you can capture the visible area (Alt+Shift+C) or drag over an area (Alt+Shift+A), and mark them up in the same editor.

Can I capture just a chat or a feed that scrolls inside the page?

Yes. Use Scrolling panel instead of Full page, then click the chat, feed or sidebar: Toolbox scrolls only that part and stitches it into one image. See the guide to screenshotting a scrolling chat or feed.

Where are my screenshots saved?

With Edit in Toolbox (the default), each capture opens in the Toolbox editor on the website. On a paid plan it's also kept in your Toolbox cloud, so you can open it from any computer; on the free plan it stays in your browser. With Save to Downloads, it goes to a Toolbox folder in your Downloads and stays on your computer.

Which formats can I save in?

PNG, JPG or WebP. JPG and WebP have a quality setting from 50 to 100%. PNG is the default.

Does it work on Mac, Windows and Chromebooks?

Toolbox runs in Google Chrome 116 or later on Windows, macOS, Linux and ChromeOS. It isn't available for phones, where Chrome doesn't support extensions.
