How to save all your open tabs in Chrome and restore them later
Open Toolbox's Tabs & sessions tool in the side panel, choose This window or All windows under Save tabs, and press Save. Toolbox keeps the tabs as a named session in your account, pinned tabs included (and tab groups if you turn that on), and can close them for you. Press Restore on the session later to open them all again, in a new window or the current one.
Free for up to 25 saved sessions. Premium ($20/month or $200/year) or Pro removes the limit and adds share links.
Step by step
- Add Toolbox to Chrome. Install Toolbox from the Chrome Web Store, pin it to the toolbar, and sign in with Google or your email. The free plan needs no card.
- Open Tabs & sessions. Click the Toolbox icon and open Tabs & sessions.
- Choose what to save. Under Save tabs, pick This window or All windows. To save only some tabs, press Select in Open tabs, tick them, then pick Selected.
- Name it and pick the options. Type a name, or leave it empty for one made from the date and the sites. Tick Close tabs after saving to close them once they're saved, and Keep tab groups to keep your groups (Chrome asks for permission the first time).
- Save. Press Save, or Ctrl+S anywhere in the panel. Undo appears right after, in case you change your mind.
- Restore them later. Find the session under Saved sessions, or search every tab you've saved, and press Restore. It opens in a new window; to open sessions in the current window instead, set Restore opens to This window under Options and shortcuts.
The full version is on the web: Sessions in Toolbox, saved tabs, organized and shared.
Good to know
- You can also right-click any page and choose Save all tabs in this window, or Save all tabs in this window and close them.
- Toolbox also saves your open windows every 5 minutes, and whatever was open when Chrome closed, as recovery snapshots kept only on this browser (up to 20). They're under Recovery in the same tool.
- Saved sessions sync to your account, so you can restore them on any computer where you sign in to Toolbox. A copy stays on your computer, so restoring works offline too.
- On the free plan, a save beyond 25 sessions is kept on this browser only, marked Not synced, and syncs once there's room.
- Incognito windows aren't saved, and neither are empty new-tab pages.
- The full manager is on the Toolbox website: rename sessions, add notes, edit, merge and move tabs, export them, and import from OneTab, Toby or Session Buddy.
